JUMP ROPE: KELTIC STEP

BeginnerPrimaryCardio
Stand

Form cues

The Keltic step involves a small forward toe tap on alternating feet — stay light on your feet
As the rope passes, hop and bring one foot forward, tapping the toes lightly before returning
Keep both movements — the hop and the tap — small and controlled
Maintain consistent rope speed throughout the footwork variation
Keep your arms close to your sides with wrist-driven rotation
Practice the footwork pattern without the rope first until it feels natural

Step-by-step technique

Grasp the jump rope handles and begin with a basic two-foot hop at a comfortable pace.

Once your rhythm is set, hop over the rope and bring your right foot slightly forward, tapping the toes of your right foot to the ground before landing back to the neutral stance.

On the next rope pass, repeat with the left foot forward. Continue alternating sides in a smooth, flowing pattern.

Focus on making the weight shifts small and controlled rather than exaggerated. The Keltic step is a rhythmic footwork variation used to develop coordination and lower leg agility.

Perform for the desired duration, building from 30-second intervals as your coordination improves.
