Exercise
JUMP ROPE: BOXER STEP
Stand
Squat
Form cues
Shift your weight laterally with each step — do not stay flat-footed
The hop to each side should be small and controlled, not a wide leap
Keep the rope turning at a consistent speed — do not slow it down for the step
Relax your shoulders; tension in the arms disrupts rope timing
Look forward and keep your torso upright throughout
This variation is used by boxers to build footwork, agility, and cardiovascular endurance
Instructions
Step-by-step technique
Begin jumping with the basic hop, rope turning smoothly. Once comfortable, begin shifting your weight laterally.
As the rope passes under your feet, hop slightly to the left, landing with your left foot leading and your right foot following. Both feet land together.
On the next pass of the rope, hop back to the right in the same manner — right foot leads, left follows.
Continue alternating sides in a steady lateral shuffle rhythm for the desired duration.
The boxer step adds lateral movement to standard jump rope, improving agility, footwork, and cardiovascular endurance — all key attributes for combat sports and general fitness.
