LATERAL LUNGE WOOD CHOP
Stand
Squat
Form cues
Set the cable or band anchor at shoulder height to your side
Grip the handle with both hands, fingers laced, arms straight across your body
Step laterally away from the anchor into a deep side lunge as you chop
Drive the band diagonally across your body and downward in a wood-chop motion
Return to standing and resist the band's pull — do not let it yank you back
Instructions
Step-by-step technique
Place a cable pulley or band anchor at shoulder height to your right.
Stand with the anchor to your right and grip the handle with your left hand first, then place your right hand on top with fingers laced together.
Start with your body centered over your right foot, arms reaching toward the anchor.
Step laterally to the left into a deep side lunge as you pull the band diagonally down and across your body.
Continue the chop motion until your hands finish near your left hip.
Pause at the bottom of the lunge and resist the band's pull.
Push through your left foot to return to standing, bringing the band back to the start.
Complete all reps on one side, then switch the anchor to the other side and repeat.
